Al's Opus in the works...

NEW YORK (AP) — Nobel laureate's Al Gore's follow-up to his best-selling "An Inconvenient Truth," originally planned for last spring, is coming out this fall with a new title.

Publisher Rodale Books announced Tuesday that the former vice president's book, "Our Choice," will be released in November, printed on 100 percent recycled paper. The book, which proposes solutions to the global warming crisis documented in "Inconvenient Truth," was called "The Path to Survival" when first announced two years ago.

As a concerned citizen, I would suggest a single copy to be passed around instead of the 100% recycled paper. However, I reserve the right to reverse my position should the alarmists take away my "soft toilet paper."

Snow Miser Follies...

When it comes to winter weather, President Obama just joked, “folks in Washington don’t seem to be able to handle things.”

They need, he added, some “flinty Chicago toughness.”

The President, joking with reporters before a meeting he’s having right now with business leaders at the White House, said he was amazed this morning to hear that his daughters’ school (the private Sidwell Friends) is closed today because of icy streets and sidewalks in the nation’s capital.

That's right...Al Gore is in Washington today...and the Gore Effect is full throttle.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Former Vice President Al Gore urged lawmakers Wednesday not to let the economic crisis get in the way of addressing global warming.

Testifying before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, the Nobel Peace Prize winner said Congress should pass President Barack Obama's economic stimulus package as a first step to bringing greenhouse gases under control.

But Gore also pressed for "decisive action" on a bill to cap heat-trapping gases, saying that it is needed for the U.S. to take a leading role in negotiations on a new international climate treaty later this year.

Stop messing with our kids' education, Al.

The power of politics...

TOKYO: The Japanese government has acknowledged for the first time that Allied prisoners during World War II were made to work at a coal mine owned by the family of Prime Minister Taro Aso, contradicting longstanding denials by the Japanese leader.

The admission came after the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, under prodding from an opposition lawmaker, released documents showing that 300 British, Dutch and Australian prisoners of war worked at a mine owned by Aso Mining during the last four months of World War II in western Japan.

There is nothing quite so nasty and perverted as politics...and their administrators. For sixty-three years, this dirty little secret festered in (of all places) the basement of the Health Ministry building. The only way it saw the light of day was motivated by an opposition leader to Prime Minister Taro Aso to gain political acuity.

Wrong motivation...desired result.

On a separate note...Al Gore's camp has issued no comment as of yet as to the negative effect that these POW's had on our environment in mining the poison known as coal.

UPDATE #2: *SNORT* The Weatherman just updated as well. There is now a forecast in Proznan, Poland of Snow or Snow/Rain starting Wednesday and going clear through Saturday. WAY TO GO, AL!!!!!!

UPDATE #3: The forecast is now showing snow or snow/rain all the way through SUNDAY. It must have been one hell of a speech. GO AL GO!!!

Al Gore is made of Peridotite

THIS is the best explanation for the "Gore Effect" that I've seen yet.

ScienceDaily (Nov. 6, 2008) — Scientists say that a type of rock found at or near the surface in the Mideast nation of Oman and other areas around the world could be harnessed to soak up huge quantities of globe-warming carbon dioxide.

Two things:

1. I'm still not buying that man has any significant effect on the temperatures experienced on the Big Blue Marble. In fact, the recent decade long cooling trend as well as historical changes prior to man's invention of the combustion engine, manufacturing, and the like suggest I am right to be skeptical. Also...pssst...has anyone ever noticed that it's cooler outside when the sun goes down?

2. I'm in the camp that believes that even if there is "Global Warming" (man made or otherwise)...that it is not necessarily a bad thing. (Disclaimer: lived in Northern New Hampshire for two grueling winters).

However, if you are of the grouping that believes "Man is killing Mother Earth,"...well, it might interest you to know that there are whole mountain ranges in Western Alaska made of Peridotite (DRILL ANWR!!!). The entire western United States is rich in Peridotite. And, of course, the primary composition of the ENTIRE MANTLE OF THE PLANET EARTH...is Peridotite.

Go figure...the Earth is self correcting...and man is an insignificant little pimple that just happens to be tagging along.
