It is true that being a Republican moderate sometimes feels like being a cast member of “Survivor” — you are presented with multiple challenges, and you often get the distinct feeling that you’re no longer welcome in the tribe. But it is truly a dangerous signal that a Republican senator of nearly three decades no longer felt able to remain in the party.

Senator Specter indicated that his decision was based on the political situation in Pennsylvania, where he faced a tough primary battle. In my view, the political environment that has made it inhospitable for a moderate Republican in Pennsylvania is a microcosm of a deeper, more pervasive problem that places our party in jeopardy nationwide.

I have said that, without question, we cannot prevail as a party without conservatives. But it is equally certain we cannot prevail in the future without moderates.

Please oh please go with him, Senator Snowe. Moderates are merely indecisive pantywastes who have little conviction or consistency. They stand not for principle, but revel in appeasement, fairytale "getting along", and act only on which way the wind is blowing. They will jump parties to secure their job (refusing to see how much THEY have strayed from those they claimed to represent).

They will stick up for the opportunists not on principle, but based on the fear that the negativity surrounding a similar waivering colleague will resonate with their own constituency.

The little girl in the photo smiles at the dead fish in her hands, not even considering that she drowned them, and that they could not breathe after being taken out of their habitat, a habitat increasingly being polluted and threatened by human activity rooted in the pretentious assumption that all creatures are on this earth to be culled, harvested, hunted and slaughtered for human benefit. This moral code strikes me as totally opposite of what religious teachings imply.

"Blessed are the merciful." Is that what hunting, trapping, fishing and teaching children to kill other beings is? Hardly.

One look at our nation's crime, violence, addictions, predatory acts (even to children), and a thinking person should be able to connect the dots -- our domination of those who are incapable of defense or escape comes full circle back to haunt us.

Instead of nurturing the most callous, desensitizing, merciless and violent behaviors we are capable of, wouldn't our society as a whole be much less violent and cruel if we did not teach those behaviors to children who have no idea of their far-reaching consequences?

The opinion article is from the April 2008 Union Leader, and the woman (bless her citified soul) is complaining about a little girl skilled and fortunate enough to have caught a couple of fish (cover of the March 2008 New Hampshire Outdoor Gazette).

Citibank...refuge for the slow...

A Nigerian man helped steal $27.2 million from a Citibank account belonging to the National Bank of Ethiopia in an elaborate international scheme, federal prosecutors charged yesterday.

Prosecutors said Paul Amos, 37, and his co-conspirators sent to Citibank bogus documents seeking to transfer money out of NBE's account.

The fake documents led Citibank to wire-transfer approximately $27 million to accounts held by Amos and the co-conspirators.

It's a wonder that Citibank has stayed viable this long...

On the plus side, I believe we can assume that Citibank is an equal opportunity employer. They obviously hire the retarded in bulk. 99.999% of us would never fall for the Nigerian 419 scam. Citibank, apparently, looks to hire the .001% that would. This scam looks even more transparent.

Global warming is cool...cooler...and cold

LONDON: Cars slewed, people slipped, trains stopped and hospitals turned back non-emergency patients as heavy snows sweeping in from the east blanketed much of Britain on Monday, taking the nation by surprise with its severity despite alarm-laden weather forecasts.

At London's Heathrow airport, one of the world's busiest, hundreds of flights were canceled as snowfalls closed both runways, the airport operators said. According to news reports, the nose-wheel on of the last planes to land before the shutdown, a Cyprus Airlines flight, skidded off the runway. No casualties were reported.

I know...I know...one winter storm is not indicative of the long term effects of "Global Warming."

Except...the other side keeps using short term temperature changes to boost their little position...

The green "shield" bug, which attacks a broad range of crops, is usually seen in the Mediterranean, Middle East, Australia, North America and Africa.

The fact is...they DON'T KNOW what the motivation of the green "shield" bug is. They might just be hungry, and found another source of food...perhaps because their usual habitat is overrun with other green "shield" bugs. Guess what? Animals adapt...that's how they survive. The "Global Warming" aspect of the short term temperature increase is taken as gospel...as if accepted without the necessity of fact. Instead...it is their fact.

And...the big finish:

Ooops...cue the "global warming causes cooler temperatures" crew. These folks keep giving themselves protological exams with their own noses.

RAFAH, Gaza Strip: It was Friday, the Muslim day of rest, but the Gaza Strip's border with Egypt was a hive of activity. Men scraped sandy soil out of holes that had served as tunnels for smuggling, and were one of the main targets of Israel's assault.

Now, less than a week after it ended, Gazans were back, plunging deep underground with lamps to carry rocky loads of soil out on pulleys.

"Everybody's busy rebuilding now," said a manager of one digging team. "In a month, it will be back to normal."

The defiant pose seemed surprisingly brazen in light of recent events: Israel said smuggling tunnels were a prime concern, after Hamas rockets, in attacking the Gaza Strip, and it hit dozens of them in airstrikes during the war. But the tunnels are the principle livelihood for many people here, and as soon as the bombing stopped, they were right back in them with their shovels.

Stop the carnage!!! The Israelis are barbarians!!! The proportional firepower used by the Israelis was overkill!!!

Are the Palestinians really this stupid??? How vacuous and obtuse do you have to be to flaunt the continuation of one of the primary motives on the Israeli action? And, I'd like to point out that those interviewed in the IHT article do not identify themselves (for the most part) as Hamas. They are Gazans...they are your everyday, run of the mill...Palestinians.

The tunnels do not address the more important question of reconstruction. Though the focus internationally has been on who will receive the money - the West does not want Hamas to get any - here in Rafah, a far more urgent question is whether the Israelis will let materials through official crossings. Tunnels, managers said, will not work.

"Reconstruction now depends on the Israeli's good will," said Jabbar Qeshta, deputy mayor of Rafah, and a member of Hamas.

The municipality has three bulldozers and about 30 cement mixers, Qeshta said, but the most basic ingredient was missing.

"Tell them I want cement," he said.

To summarize...Hamas (with the support of most of the Palestinian constituency in Gaza) lobs rockets continuously on Israeli border towns. Israel responds by taking out the origination of the mortars (continuously hid in residential as well as UN operated buildings), attempts to destroy the tunnels by which the armaments are being smuggled into Gaza, and make a concerted effort to neutralize those responsible for the decision making.

The entire cadre of media morons attempts to show Israel in an unfavorable light, and apply Sainthood to the Palestinians. The United Nations does the same (as expected). A ceasefire is finally realized (although way too early in my opinion).

And NOW...regular everyday Palestinians flaunt that they are continuing on by rebuilding the tunnels such that this same scenario can take place again in the near future.

Yeah...you know what...screw their future...by their own idiotic murderous hands.

Eric Manson says he never uses a gun when he robs a bank. He says he doesn't need one.

This guy robbed eighty (80) banks and came away with a whopping cumulative total of $30,000. I think it's safe to say that he wasn't very good. Here's why:

He's been caught three times in the past 15 years - but never in the act.

In 1993, he confessed to 41 heists in Los Angeles and served four years of a five-year sentence. In 1997, he served 10 years for two robberies in Pennsylvania.

"I don't know if they're trying to make it easy, but there's really nothing to it," boasts the bald bandit, his hulking 6-foot, 200-pound frame draped in a gray prison jumpsuit.

Well...apparently there is something to it, or this guy wouldn't be sporting the winter gray jumpsuit ensemble...would he? The problem is that the idiots on the Bench keep letting this festering piece of waste outside to do it again.
