ROME (Reuters) – U.S. President Barack Obama is using a "new language" in relations with the Middle East and an official overture toward Hamas is only a matter of time, the Islamist group's leader Khaled Meshaal said in a newspaper interview.

"A new language toward the region is coming from President Obama. The challenge for everybody is for this to be the prelude for a genuine change in U.S. and European policies. Regarding an official opening toward Hamas, it's a matter of time," Meshaal told Italian daily La Repubblica in an interview published on Sunday.

The newspaper said Meshaal was reacting to Obama's offer of better ties with Iran, Hamas's main backer along with Syria.

Incidentally...better ties with Iran is a platitude by Hamas since most of their military training, weapons supply, and financial support under the table comes from the Clerics of Iran. The association is that since President Obama is daft enough to work with Iran on a limited preconitional basis, he must be daft enough to give legitimacy to a terrorist organization. After all...six of one, half dozen of another.

Unfortunately...I believe Hamas is correct in their speculation. The current administration has proved their agenda won't be slowed by petty things such as terrorism, soft Jihad and the lot.

WASHINGTON — President Obama, in one of his first efforts to "reset or reboot" the nation's icy relationship with Russia, said Tuesday he has told Moscow that the United States might not need to build a controversial missile-defense system in Eastern Europe.

In a letter sent last month to Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, Obama included a big if — the system could be scrapped, he said, if Iran halted its quest for a nuclear weapon.

Obama said he did not press Russia to exert its influence over Iran or issue a "quid pro quo" for not building the system. "What I said in the letter was, obviously, to the extent that we are lessening Iran's commitment to nuclear weapons, then that reduces the pressure for, or the need for, a missile-defense system," he said.

What's worse than a quid pro quo that bases it's foundation on the voluntary cooperation of Russia? Well...that would be a quid pro quo that bases its foundation on the voluntary cooperation of Iran.

I do believe that our President is wayyyyyyy, wayyyyyyy, wayyyyyyyy out of his league...or his goals are suspect.

“This much is clear: we will be willing to talk,” Biden said at the Munich Security Conference today. Iran has “a very clear choice: to continue down the current course and there will be continued pressure and isolation. Abandon the illicit nuclear program and your support for terrorism, and there will be meaningful incentives.”

Continued "pressure and isolation" gets the same eye roll out of me that I save for the United Nations when they issue a "strongly worded statement." It means nothing to me...and even less to Iran. In fact, such rhetoric only fuels the Theocratic control.

I rather someone make an off the cuff remark like:

"You know...I'm told that sand will fuse to glass anywhere between 1,022 and 1,472 degrees Fahrenheit. How about that?" Or... "We all know how bad the housing market is right now...even in Iran. That being said, I sure wouldn't build a new house just north of the Straits of Hormuz. No sir...that would be a bad long term investment."

Simply put…offering “meaningful incentives” to a country whose mantra is “Death to America” and “Death to Israel” is akin to paying off a ransom in an overt extortion attempt. Although, I suppose that all depends on your definition of “meaningful incentives.”

My definition does not include candy and gum.

"From now on, which power in the world can be found that has the courage to threaten the Iranian nation?" Ahmadinejad asked to cheers.

Facing tens of thousands of flag-waving Iranians at Tehran's Azadi (Freedom) Square, Ahmadinejad offered his first response to President Barack Obama's comments Monday that he was "looking for openings" with Iran.

Guess who thinks he holds all the trump cards of the deck? Ahmadinejad (aka: I'ma Nutjob). He doesn't, but our player in the game still doesn't know the "rules" and continues to dump the face cards.

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iran has successfully sent its first domestically made satellite into orbit, state radio reported Tuesday, another development in the country's ambitious space program that has worried many international observers.

The satellite called Omid, or hope in Farsi, was launched late Monday after President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad gave the order to proceed, according to the radio report. State television also showed footage of what it said was the satellite blasting off in the darkness from an unidentified location in Iran.

Yes...it's the same Iran that continues to state without ambiguity that they would like to wipe Israel and the United States off the map.

Now, let's revisit what our leader is doing:

The thing is...when nuclear weapons arrived on the scene...the United States was the first to have them...and stayed out in front of our enemies such that any act on their part using weapons of mass destruction would result in their own demise. It was a concept of "first/ second strike capability" that kept everyone with a grain of common sense in check. The fact that the USA held the best hand in the game was further stabling.

In this case, our President has announced that we will not pursue this next generation of defense weapons just weeks before the most insane country on the planet launches their first satellite.

Folks...President Obama needs to lose this naive pacifist mentality...or down the road it will not be pleasant.

TEHRAN: A day after President Barack Obama struck a conciliatory tone toward Iran, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad urged Washington on Wednesday to apologize for its actions toward his country for the past 60 years and said it was unclear whether the new U.S. administration was merely shifting tactics or wanted real change.

I'm sorry:

-- that Iran's flag has "ALLAH AKBAR" (God is Great) in white Arabic script repeated 11 times along the bottom edge of the green band and 11 times along the top edge of the red band representative of a rights crushing...Theocracy.

-- that 66 Million people have to live under a government of cretinous, tyranical daftness.

-- that subjects of Iran are stoned, beaten, imprisoned and mistreated just because of their gender, sexual orientation, religion or simple views.

-- that Iranian women are trafficked internally for the purpose of forced prostitution and for forced marriages to settle debts; Iranian children are trafficked internally and Afghan children are trafficked into Iran for the purpose of forced marriages, commercial sexual exploitation, and involuntary servitude as beggars or laborers.

-- that Iran signed onto the Kyoto Protocol nonsense.

-- that Iran remains one of the primary transshipment routes for Southwest Asian heroin to Europe; suffers one of the highest opiate addiction rates in the world, and has an increasing problem with synthetic drugs.

-- that Ahmadinejad (aka: Imanutjob) really thinks that Israel is going to allow a nation of terrorist supporting enablers to possess weapons of mass destruction regardless of the position of the United States.

-- that women in Iran can be beaten to a pulp for showing too much skin.

Ahmadinejad also questioned the United States deployment of forces in many places around the world, apparently demanding that the forces be withdrawn. "Who has asked them to come and interfere in the affairs of nations?" he asked, according to Reuters.

Anyone recall that scene from "When Mars Attacks?" Rod Steiger's character (General Decker) is deep in the bunker with the president, and in walks the emmisary of the Martians. He promptly shoots Decker with a ray that shrinks him to the size of an animated peanut. General Decker is jumping up and down screaming the entire time as his voice gets progressively more puny and high pitched. He remained defiant right up until the moment that a shoe tread squished him like a bug.

TEHRAN, Jan 4 (Reuters) - Gaza will become Israel's graveyard, the speaker of Iran's parliament was quoted as saying on Sunday after the Jewish state launched a ground offensive deep into the coastal Palestinian territory.

Israeli tanks and infantry battled Hamas fighters in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, hours after launching a ground offensive after eight days of deadly air strikes failed to halt the Islamist group's rocket attacks on Israel.

"The Zionists faced the powerful resistance of the zealous Palestinians ... the Zionists should know that Gaza will become their graveyard," Mehr News Agency quoted speaker Ali Larijani as telling parliament.

Be Careful What You Wish For...

I keep Keisha on a leash when we go to public places that are likely to have kids running around. She had a tendency to get excited when there is a lot of activity. She's never bitten anyone, but it pays to be cautious when kids are involved.

However, there are times when she assumes the leash is on and stays right at my side. Then that marble in her noggin kicks in. She notes that the tether is gone...and look out. Furball kicks up the dust and bolts with no particular destination in mind. She just enjoys the freedom.

Which brings me to the point of this nonsense:

Today, Israel noticed that there was a bit of slack in the tether, and let loose a few helicopter missiles in the direction of some Palestinian Militants.

A four-month-old ceasefire between Israel and Palestinian militants in Gaza was in jeopardy yesterday after Israeli troops killed six Hamas gunmen in a raid into the territory

The point is...this is the first breach of Gaza since the June ceasefire. The timing would suggest a message to the President Elect...and that quaint little Middle Eastern community over there.

Actually...that's not the point at all. The real point is that I wouldn't want to do any travelling to Iran come January 20th. The election yesterday places a US President in office who will be significantly less sympathetic and trustworthy in the eyes of one of the United States' most steadfast allies. The US has tempered retalitory actions by Israel on many occasion. Concerning Iran, it would be a first strike opportunity that they will see as necessity.

Ohhhhh...so that's why President Bush sold them those bunker busters. Now I get it. Soon the Iranians (who supported Obama's election) will get it too.
